CHINO VALLEY – The Kingman High School football team took a lead into the fourth quarter, but couldn’t come away with a win at Chino Valley on Friday, Oct. 9.
Chino Valley wide receiver Kamren Loftin caught a 25-yard touchdown pass in a crowd in the corner of the end zone to seal the win for the Cougars, who improved to 1-1 on the season. Loftin followed with another catch for the two-point conversion.
Kingman dropped to 1-1 after a season-opening win over Kingman Academy on Oct. 2.
Chino Valley opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 30-yard touchdown run by quarterback Jayden Smith to take a 6-0 lead, but the conversion attempt failed, and Kingman quickly answered.
Bulldog junior running back Malakai Bell ran for a touchdown, then put Kingman up 8-6 by rushing for the two-point conversion.
Kingman forced and recovered several fumbles in the red zone in the first half to preserve the lead. And the Bulldogs were poised to pad the lead with a long third quarter drive that ate seven minutes off the clock, before it, too, ended in a fumble.
Kingman returns home next Friday, Oct. 16, to host Dysart. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
Dysart, after a 19-0 loss to Wickenburg on Friday, is 1-1 overall.
