Dolphins grab 30 firsts in Cottonwood

KINGMAN - In the 103 events swum by the Kingman Dolphins Swim Team at the Sedona Splash Meet Friday and Saturday in Cottonwood, the Dolphins put together 68 top-three finishes. KDST won 30 of the events.

Giancarlo Narvarte in the 11-12 year-olds division and Brady Cowin (9-10) led the Dolphin boys with five first-place finishes each, and Alexis Bathauer (13-14) and Avery Moon (9-10) each had three to lead the girls.

Narvarte won the 50-meter backstroke, 50 and 100 breaststrokes, the 100 individual medley and the 200 freestyle. He dropped 10.89 seconds off his personal best in the 100 IM, and another 15.90 in the 200 freestyle.

Cowin was successful in the 50 and 100 backstrokes, 50 freestyle and butterfly, and the 100 IM. He dropped 2.91 seconds off his best time in the 100 IM.

Other firsts for the boys include Diego Narvarte (7-8). He finished first three times in the 25 butterfly, 100 freestyle and IM. He knocked 2.41 seconds off of his best IM time.

Kael Juelfs (9-10) won the 50 and 100 breaststrokes, and Kade Juelfs (9-10), Jacob Miyauchi (13-14) and Marco Narvarte (9-10) each had one first-place finish.

Jacob Aviles, Logan Day, Gabriel Otero, Christopher Volk, Patrick Webb and Noah Weiler also competed for the Dolphins' boys squad.

On the girls side, Bathauer was victorious in the 100 and 200 backstrokes and the 200 freestyle. Moon touched first in the 50 and 100 freestyles, and dropped 3.38 seconds off her best time when she won the 50 butterfly.

Heather Weninger (13-14) took first in the 100 freestyle with a time drop of 2.97 seconds, and she won the 50 freestyle. She dropped 13.66 seconds in the 100 backstroke and 16 seconds in the 200 IM.

Shelia Ramirez also had two wins - the 100 IM with a 5.56 second time drop, and the 100 backstroke. She also dropped 11.16 in the 50 freestyle and 21.88 in the 100 freestyle.

Bryce Shuffler (7-8) took first in the 25 butterfly and Chelsea Heitman (9-10) won the 100 breaststroke.

Becca Ramirez and Rosanna Volk were also on the Dolphins' girls roster.

There's no rest for KDST as the Dolphins will be at the Bullhead Invitational this weekend.
